Hello there. (Obi Wan voice)
Took me long enough, but I'm finally getting set up as a member. It helps I can access this brand new forum from work.
Name/Nickname: Travis - though I have had many. My Air Force call sign was "Jar Jar." - no I don't have big floppy ears.
Types of speculative fiction you write: Espionage, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Military
How long have you been writing?: 18 Years
What are your goals for joining the group? Any publishing plans?: Agented - On submission.
Do you agree to follow all of the rules stated in the rules forum?: Of course. Yes.
How did you find us? Did another member refer you? I am very late to the OG party.
Would you like to join the discord server as well?: Already there!
Tell us a little about yourself! Any non-writing interests or hobbies you'd care to share?:
I've been a long time member of the Spec Fic Group, mostly as a marathon Junkie. But I can say for certain this group after nearly a decade finally helped me get my writing in good enough shape to become represented.
Oh, I'm represents by Terrie Wolf at AKA Literary. I have a website, which might need a few adjustments, and I am not very good at keeping up with my blog on the site. Shameless plug incoming:
www.travishightower.net
I'm strong at writing compelling action, but rather weak on the lingering deep thoughts or pacing of character feelings.
Pet peeves of novel writing include things I used to be (or still am) terrible at - filtering, weak verb use, and the overdose of the dreaded adverb.
I flew E-3 AWACS as an Air Battle Manager from 2002 to 2012, and then went into the world of defense contracting. My three kids merged into a "Brady Bunch" with three other kids - leaving me with six teenagers' and basically broke all the time as a result. I still brag about being a Texas Aggie, Star Wars knowledge, and the various martial arts in which I train.
Nice to be here.
