Hi everyone! I'm excited to be a part of this group and hopefully take my writing to the next level!
Name/Nickname:
James, - potential pen name: JSHargreaves
Types of speculative fiction you write:
YA Scifi / Fantasy ... really anything with a lot of imagination, adventure, and character-growth involved.
I have started writing many different types of stories, all speculative
- Various coming-of-age tales involving teleportation, time travel, or portals;
- the beginnings of a few pieces of short fiction involving fantastical objects found by ordinary people leading to all sorts of hijinks;
- and I even finished one short story that retells the first six days of the Genesis creation story, all told from the perspective of the first flame - where do you think the first ... "Let there be light" ... came from?
My current WIP is YA-Epic-Portal-Scifi series that drops a classroom of teenagers (in their science classroom, complete with desks, chairs, lab stations, and one very unfortunate substitute teacher) onto another planet. And although the novel is firmly scifi, the planet the kids are on feels like a fantasy world (no magic, elves, or dwarves, but still feels like a world filled with the promise of adventure).
How long have you been writing?: Forever. Won an elementary school writing contest in 5th grade and haven't stopped coming up with crazy ideas ever since. My current WIP has been in process since about 2016.
What are your goals for joining the group? Any publishing plans?: Getting me back on track to finishing this second draft, leading to a finished manuscript I would be happy to submit to editors, publishers, etc... My dream is to see my book(s) in school libraries and maybe even get to tour around and talk to teens and adults about my stories.
Do you agree to follow all of the rules stated in the rules forum?: yes
How did you find us? Did another member refer you? A comment on a post on KM Weiland's website advertising this group.
Tell us a little about yourself! Any non-writing interests or hobbies you'd care to share?: I've been a Middle School Band Director / Teacher for 18 years in South Texas, love helping kids discover the joys of music, and enjoy playing various instruments myself. And although I am a full-grown adult, I still (when I find time) enjoy messing around with Legos, video games, puzzles, and brain games of all sorts. I also have a loving wife who puts up with all my shenanigans and a precious dog we both adore.
Would you like to join the discord server as well? Yes! Don't know when I will be available to interact live but would love the opportunity.
